Scott has ridden, owned, and worked around horses all his life. He was riding by age 3 and immediately his parents recognized his love and natural abilities towards these animals. A few months after he had been taking lessons under the guidance of his trainer Jill Price, Scott became anxious to get his own horse. After a brief search Scott picked out his first horse which his parents purchased for him. Scott began his show career at age 6 and has continued riding and showing hunters and pleasure horses since. He attended the University of MD for 1 year as a student in their Equine Management Program. He also worked as an intern with top rated Quarter Horse trainer Ken Adkins in West Virginia , whom Scott also has assisted at the Quarter Horse Congress in Ohio . Scott has recently dedicated himself to bringing horses and people together through mutual respect and trust. Scott works primarily by giving individual, customized attention to students, teaching private or small group lessons to his clients. He also maintains approximately 12 horses for full training or breaking. Some of his work includes breaking and training BLM Mustangs, Sport Horses, Quarter Horses, ex-race horses to make hunters, and he has broken 2 year olds for the track. He travels to people's homes or farms to teach trailer loading sessions to clients and their horses. In his spare time, he shows Western Pleasure at both local and AQHA shows with either his own horses or his client's horses.
Barbara "BJ" Hartmann has been an equestrian instructor and trainer for over 35 years, specializing in physically and mentally traumatized horses, scared riders and evaluation of improper behavior and movement assessment.
I work with all disciplines:
Hunter/Jumpers, Dressage, Saddleseat, Western, Racehorses and more... Since 1996 I have competed in the Great Lakes Modern Pentathlon competition, a five-sport event involving fencing, pistol shooting, swimming, running and horse show jumping. I completed my video production in 2001 called Grooming For The Health Of Your Horse. This excellent video shows how to combine acupressure and sports massage into a daily grooming routine, which will improve a horse's productivity and performance. I am a mother of three, and after competing and playing college basketball years ago I have continued the love of this sport by helping coach a local basketball team. I have been around horses since the first grade and competed in both the hunter/jumper circuit and Pinto circuit as a youth. After being crowned Pinto Queen of Ohio I was in a very serious car accident that left me partially disabled, which in turn led me to alternative modalities which has helped my success in my current profession.
Barbara "BJ" Hartmann is the owner of Miracle Farm,

Everyday, more trainers and clinicians are going down the road teaching steps and exercises and drills in order to help people with their horses and their horsemanship. No doubt, this ‘horseman-in-a-box’ approach is valuable in teaching the human… but what the horse needs is something different. There are very few people trying to offer what Patrick King tries to offer to the human and the horse. Feel. It’s a feel that comes from the heart of the human and the heart of the horse and becomes a connection and a synchronicity of two minds and two bodies. That feel is so important to the horse, and when you don’t have that, you lose a very important part of the horse. You can still get results without that part, but you are not working with the horse in his entirety. His mind. His body. His spirit. It’s all got to be lined up and working with you…. Otherwise this feel won’t be there.

Jann O’Leary Costa, a former college professor, has been involved with alternative therapy for over 10 years. She was a guest lecturer at 1999 Equitana, and she has been a featured speaker at the PA Horse Expo in 2001 and 2002. She has been an avid horse person for over 25 years, and competes locally and nationally in cutting horse competition. In 2005, she rode Magics My Dad, to championships in Pennsylvania and Area 19, and was named Top 100 in the World. She combines the use of herbs with light and magnetic therapy to support the whole animal. She has published articles in Equus, the Pedlar, the Equine Journal, and several other trade journals. She recently completed a book, Tales From The Heart, which she hopes to publish this year. She gives clinics and does farm calls, and is available as a lecturer. She is married to cutting horse trainer and former bull rider, Johnny Costa. They have incorporated therapy into the training program at JC CUTTING HORSES. They feel that many training and behavioral problems have physical roots. By applying principles of therapy to horses in their training program, they are more successful and have fewer injuries. Jann has also had great success working with cats, dogs, pot bellied pigs, and support geriatric pets. She established Critter Care, an alternative care facility, at her farm in Boyertown, to provide critical and long term care for seriously sick or injured pets. Jann and John also provide foster care for rescue animals including cats, dogs, horses, and goats. Johnny Costa, has been riding and showing horses since the time he could first walk. Raised in the horse industry, John first gained notoriety as a successful full rider in the 60’s and 70’s. He spent over 25 years at Willowbrook Farm in Catasaqua, where he broke and rode colts. It was at Willowbrook where he first became interested in cutting horses, and showed Willowbrook’s stallion Docorona. In the early 90’s he moved his training operation to Massachusetts, where he introduced many newcomers to the sport of cutting. He moved back to Pennsylvania in 1996, and with his wife, Jann O’Leary Costa, he operates a full time cutting facility in Boyertown. Although cutting is his first love, he trains and rides horses for team penning and stock horse, as well. In 2000, he rode Magics My Dad, to several regional championships and Top Ten Honors at the Quarter Horse Congress. That same year, Magic and John won the NCHA Area 19 Championships in the $10,000 Novice Horse and the $3,000 Novice Horse. In 2001, they continued their success winning the Area 19 Open Championship, and finishing second in the $10,000 Novice Horse. John believes in training the whole horse, and incorporates equine therapy into his training program. He feels horses that are at their optimum best, will train better and be more successful in the show ring. John also trains non-pro riders for cutting, John’s students have gone on to win both local and area honors, and will be going to national competitions too.
